Horiguchi went 3-0 in 2014 with stoppage wins over Darrell Montague and Jon Delos Reyes, followed by a decision over Louis Gaudinot. This earned him a championship bout against Demetrious Johnson at UFC 186 in April 2015, where he was submitted with one second remaining in round five.
